Data sheet RP-01 · Rev. 2026-11 · In development

Technical
details

The full sheet behind the home page: what the replay screen does, how the timer connects to the box, which boxes it reads today, and what it doesn’t do yet. Reprise is in development, so this sheet changes as each box is proven.

Runs on
Any iPad or Mac with an Apple M-series chip (iPadOS 18 / macOS 15 or later). iPhone works too, for fencer cameras and as a station. Windows: in development.
Tested box
Favero FA-05
Sold as
App + one timer per piste

§1 · Replay

Replay

The light goes on, and the touch is already a clip.

The station keeps a rolling buffer from the camera. Touches, halts, cards and passivity each become a clip in the bout’s list. Step frame by frame, slow to 0.1×, loop and zoom. The counter shows the camera’s real frame rate, so nobody argues about what a frame is.

Fig. 1. Replay screen, iPad, landscape. Drawn from the app; the camera frame is left empty.

Key to Fig. 1

1
Clip list for the bout. Touches carry the light colour; halts, cards and passivity are listed too.
2
Overlay: lights, score, clock, period and cards. Drawn onto exported clips.
3
Light marker. The frame where the box registered the touch.
4
The seconds before and after the light, taken from the rolling buffer.
5
Frame step back, play, frame step forward.
6
Speed from 0.1× to 1×. Loop and pinch zoom alongside.
7
Frame counter and the camera’s actual frame rate.
8
Export. Appeals stay attached to the clip, per bout.

§2 · Hardware

Hardware

A small box on a cable. It listens and never writes.

The Reprise timer plugs into the scoring box’s data port and reads what the box already sends: lights, score, clock, period and cards. It passes them on over Bluetooth to up to three iPads or Macs at once.

It is also a passivity timer with its own LED digits. It counts the minute from the box’s own clock and turns blue at zero, for foil and épée. It works without the app, and the app works without it, with manual capture.

Full figures in §4 Specifications

Fig. 2. Reprise timer, front and side. Listens to the data port; never writes. Also a passivity timer that works with or without the app.

§3 · Signal path

Signal path

One cable to the box. Nothing to the internet.

Most boxes go through the timer: data port, cable, timer, then Bluetooth to the iPads and Macs. Two boxes have Bluetooth of their own, the Favero FA-15 and the Skewered SKF-B1, and the app reads those directly with no timer. The FA-15 can also use its data port and the timer.

No Wi-Fi, no account. Clips stay on the device. No timer or no supported box? The app still records, and touches are captured by hand.

Fig. 3. Signal path, two routes. Solid: cable. Dashed: Bluetooth. Only route A with the Favero FA-05 has run on a real box; RS-422 and route B are in development.

§4 · Specifications

Specifications

Subject to change while Reprise is in development.

Table 1. App and timer specifications.

§5 · Compatibility

Which boxes
it reads

One box has been proven on hardware. The rest have documented protocols and are being built against. A row moves to Tested only after it has run on a real box.

  • Tested run on a real box
  • In development protocol documented
  • Can’t be read no data output

Have a different box? Tell us its model. If it has a data port, we want to read it.

§6 · Devices

Devices

Any iPad or Mac with an Apple M-series chip runs the station. Stand it at the end of the piste and point its camera down the piste.

§7 · Limits

Limits

Intended use

Clubs, training, regional events and referee development.

Sold to clubs and associations as a bundle: the app plus one timer per piste. Pricing will be announced at launch.

  • FIENot homologated. Do not use it where FIE-homologated equipment is required.
  • DecisionReprise shows the touch. The referee decides, and that decision stands.
  • BoxesOnly the Favero FA-05 has been proven on hardware so far. Boxes without a data output can’t be read.
  • FA-15The Bluetooth route has not yet been run on a real FA-15.
  • WindowsNot yet. iPad and Mac come first.
  • InternetNot needed at the piste. FencingTime Live names need it, and they are optional.
  • StatusThe whole system is in development. Register interest to hear when it ships.
