Setting up Reprise, getting the most from the timer, and what to try when something isn’t working.

Getting started

  1. Plug the timer into the data port on your scoring box and power it. Its panel shows a four-character name such as PT-1A2B.
  2. Open Reprise on your iPad, iPhone or Mac and allow Camera, Microphone and Bluetooth when asked.
  3. In Setup, choose your camera and the weapon, then pick the timer whose name matches the one on its panel.
  4. Start capture. Fence a touch: a clip appears in Review as soon as the box resolves it.

Placing the camera

  • Put the camera level with the piste, side-on, at the centre line. With a wide-angle USB camera, about 4–5 m back covers the whole piste.
  • Light matters more than resolution. In a dim hall a camera can drop its frame rate to keep the picture bright; Reprise shows the frame rate it is really getting.
  • Avoid pointing the camera at windows; a bright background darkens the fencers.

Troubleshooting

The app can’t find the timer

Check that Bluetooth is on and that Reprise has Bluetooth permission (Settings → Privacy → Bluetooth). Stay within about 10 m. A timer accepts three devices at once; disconnect one you’re not using.

The app says the box is unplugged

The timer has power but isn’t receiving data from the box. Reseat the cable in the box’s data port, and check that the box is switched on.

Touches aren’t being clipped

Make sure capture is running and the weapon is set correctly; the weapon decides how lights are read. Manual capture always works as a fallback.

The video looks choppy or dark

Add light, or choose a lower-resolution mode at a higher frame rate in Setup. For blade action, frame rate matters most.

Where are my clips?

On the device, inside Reprise. Nothing is uploaded. Export a clip from Review to keep a copy elsewhere. Clips you haven’t kept are removed oldest-first when the storage limit is reached.

Requirements

iPad and iPhone with a current iOS/iPadOS, or a Mac with macOS 15 or later. The timer needs a Favero box with a serial data port; it has been tested with the FA-05.
